Fees |
1.Caribbean fee terms; In contrast to the Mediterranean, Caribbean charter yachts rarely pull into marinas but anchor in lovely harbours and secluded bays. The charter fee typically includes the charter of the yacht, food and drinks. There are often limits on complimentary drinks and special wines and champagnes are usually charged extra. Also extra would be communications, National Park, marina or mooring fees, Rendezvous SCUBA diving, and local, per guest visitor fees in some locations. 10% of the charter fee is the minimum expected gratuity for the crew. Higher tips are welcome and often well deserved. This is very fair and is best divided by the Captain to prevent unseen efforts from going un rewarded. This general rule applies to all charter anywhere in the world.
2.Mediterranean fee Terms; Generally speaking, typical terms for the Western Mediterranean are based on the Charter Fee covering the charter of the yacht. Additional charges based on cost can be fuel for the yacht, (especially regarding power yachts), ski-boats and tenders, food and drink for the guests, harbour and marina fees including shore power, water etc.., and any special equipment onboard at the request of the charterer. There are variations depending on the individual yachts but the Mediterranean charter usually depends on marinas for the most part. Further, the abundance of good restaurants in every port makes eating out part of the adventure. There is also legislation in the EU for the collection of VAT, Value Added Tax, from 16% to 20% or more on the charter fee though this might not apply to certain yachts. It is best to inquire. Again, 10% of the charter fee as gratuity for the crew is minimum.
3.Independent fee schedules; Owner operated yachts often create their own pricing system, be that by cabin, by bed, by person or by week and/or charter ground packages. Specific meals may be included and some complimentary drinks while others offer per meal prices and drinks separate, or a meals included option at a per-week-per-person price. Toys like jetski, windsurfer and kayak may have an hourly rate or may be included. Many possibilities exist especially when owners are willing to negotiate according to the requirements of the charterer. 10% of the charter fee as gratuity for the crew is minimum.

4. OWNER/OPERATED YACHTS: Typically less expensive to charter for several reasons. Not having high salaries to pay for crew being high on the list. These yachts are well maintained, often unique in design and character and offer the added experience of the owners themselves who are distinguished as well travelled and gracious hosts. Prices typically range from $10,000.00 to 35,000.00 per week. Some economy charters may be in the range of $120.00-200.00 per person per day. 10% of the charter fee as gratuity for the crew is minimum.
5.MEGA CHARTER YACHTS: Ultimate LUXURY yachts built without concern for expense and operated by hired professional crews earning extreme salaries. These yachts cost millions in annual maintenance. Charter prices begin at about US$50,000.00 per week plus about the same amount again for the additional expenses you will run up during your charter. Compared to owning a yacht this size, chartering saves you a lot of money and you still live out your dream. Even owners typically use their yachts rarely more than 7 weeks a year. 10% of the charter fee as gratuity for the crew is minimum.
6.BAREBOAT CHARTERS; Bareboat charter comanies offer series boats with or without captain. The charter fee runs from $3,000 and up per week. You stock the boat and you make the itenerary. Rules regarding experience and charter route apply. The Caribbean has several bareboat companies with offices throughout the islands, making your charter planning easy and well serviced.

8. Crewing on a charter yacht is a full time, highly physical job. Some yachts pay very well for a charter season. Others want crew for longer term, even year round. Those seeking crew positions should be aware that it is not in any way, a vacation. Charterers should be aware that the crew works very hard and long hours to make sure their guests have a great vacation.
